Brief: Electrical Emergency response, Electrical Fire
KO Electrical Ltd responded to an electrical emergency response due to an electrical fire at the ABP London events hall in East London. There we were informed how smoke was seen coming from the large consumer unit and how fire fighters were called on scene to isolate the supply.
After a quick investigation by one of our experienced engineers, we later informed ABP London on the required works as below.
  • Identify and repair all burnt circuits

  • Rewire Kitchen circuit

  • Carry Test of entire premises

  • Provide Thermography report

It was a long process to strip back the 72 MCBs (Miniature Circuit Breakers) and label all circuits. We had to strip everything to locate and identify the burnt wiring. We later rewired the kitchen area as all cables were damaged due to the overloading from previous years of event holding.
How did we help?
Our test team arrived on site after the installations team to carry out a full test of the premises, which reported no major failures apart from the general age related readings. For other companies, this would have been the end of the job but because we have thermal imaging equipment, we later discovered many of the MCBs were producing a lot of heat and that the fire hazard was still there even though we had repaired all damaged cabling and carried out a full test of the premises. Further works were advised and carried out; • Replacement of all MCBs • Supply RCD protection
All works from supply to fit were carried out to meet ABP London’s short deadline, our engineers worked evenings, weekends and alongside other trades. A great reason to have our engineers equipped with thermal imaging test equipment, and to avoid another electrical fire hazard that would have otherwise gone unseen by most conventional test methods.
