What are Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs)?
Miniature Circuit Breakers (MCBs) are designed to protect against overloads and short-circuits, preventing damage to cables and equipment. MCBs are installed in modern Consumer Units as an alternative to old rewired or barrel fuses as they can be reset without having to replace wires or fuses with a simple flick of a switch.

Type B

“Type B” MCBs Trips between 3 and 5 times full load current. Type B MCBs are commonly used in domestic systems and light commercial applications where surges are low.

Type C

“Type C” MCBs trips between 5 and 10 times full load current. Type C MCBs are most suitable for commercial and industrial applications where surges are high compared to the full load current of a Type B MCB.

Type D

“Type D”  MCBs trips between 10 and 20 times full load current. Type D MCBs are designed for more specialist industrial use, where current inrushes can be high.
